Sounds good! :)

This means prerevenue operation will begin on Sunday, December 4, 2011, and the line will (most likely) open on Sunday, January 15, 2012.

Let's hope they aren't rushing because of some political pressure and the line opens as a fast line, not like how the Gold Line Eastside extension opened.

Where's the official announcement? We've heard rumors and constant unconfirmed reports on this. Until the Source says so....it's not happening.

From what it sounds like, the official announcement will be anytime between now and Friday -- unless -- there is a change in plans.

Why would they do a staging event for pre-revenue operations? I can't recall if this was done when the Gold Line was starting prerevenue. Celebrations would only happen on the day service opens to the public...not a pre-pre service.

Yippee! So I'm assuming non-revenue Expo trains will test at 7th/Metro Center, which means that Metro would have to put out a notifiaction that the Blue Line will now be shared (?)

Per the Source:

I want to reinforce that point loud and clear: At this time, Metro DOES NOT have an opening date for the Expo Line. Nor has Metro made a decision whether to first open the line first to La Cienega/Jefferson or all the way to Culver City, where the station is still being completed.

The bottom line is that Metro, which currently operates five rail lines, will decide when the Expo Line is ready for passenger operations and can be opened. We rode on a test train last week and wrote this: “There are still parts of the project not yet finished, namely there’s work to be done on the switch on the junction of the Expo Line and Blue Line tracks, the ventilation system in the tunnel under Figueroa near USC and the Culver City station.”

There is also no start date yet for pre-revenue testing, when trains run on a simulated schedule but without passengers.

I think it may be a little premature to get excited here. No date yet for the start of prerevenue service. Also, we still have the ventilation issues with the tunnel and the blue line tie-in, and it isn't clear that those issues have been resolved - it doesn't look like it from here.

I don't understand why Arthur Leahy says prerevenue operation will start on Sunday and then The Source says, prerevenue operation won't start, and the Facebook page says it will start, and then the The Source says Facebook page is right, it will start, but then they say it's wrong, the construction isn't finished. Go figure. ???

Not that I don't believe you, but lets just say I have a healthy skepticism with this project for good reason. I'm with LA of Anaheim in that until I see something on the Source, I am not sure. The Source's post didn't really give you the warm and fuzzy feeling on this, but who knows. I am sure we will know more this week.

If theres one thing expo construction has taught us, is to never even hope anything will happen ahead of schedule.

Put me down for the 29th.

james..do not confuse this for a schedule. This is speculation by board members. Until The Source says something about pre-revenue, there is no date. Expo has never set an actual date; there was a budgeted date just for budgeting, but not an opening date. All other dates have been rumors extrapolated. Expo continues to say "late 2011/early 2012"..that's all. But no date.

James is only placing a bet by putting his money on the 29th. You can also place a bet by putting your money on a different date. Whoever comes closest, picks up all the money.

I'm an optimist... I put my money on pre-revenue testing starting next week December 5.

Full revenue service 6 weeks from that date: January 16

p.s. I always lose money in Vegas...

January 30th.

Something small will crop up during the pre-revenue testing that will cause a 2 week delay. Seems like that would be about right given what has happened so far, with the rain and all. Aren't there supposed to be 60MPH winds tonight :o

How many trains are expected to be operating next week? I'd like to go down to ExpoLand and get some photos, but not if there's "nothin' shakin'" (or rolling).

We'll find more about Expo at the board meeting tomorrow.

Also, the latest time for an official Metro news release for prerevenue operation starting the following week (normally on a Sunday) would be on a Friday.

It looks like ExpoLine Fan has left the building and deleted all his posts. He messaged me on Facebook and said he was tired of constantly being challenged here - simply relaying information he got from Expo and Metro staff, but having to defend it. As he put it: "It's no longer fun."

There you go...

Anyway, I for one, very much appreciated his constant photo updates - almost acting like a paid reporter for the board - and will very much miss him.

By the way, the is the first update I am writing from a train - on the Adirondack 68 - from NYC to Montreal, with WiFi!

I appreciated the depth of information that Dwight provided in his profusion of posts. But it also began to seem as if the conversation on the board had become "expert" top-heavy ...though not one of us has final answers. Rather we post hearsay and impressions ...and wait for The Source, http://thesource.metro.net/ (which has been down for the past day), or some other incontrovertible spokesperson to offer a bottom line.

But part of the balance evidenced on this board has been great information from a relatively large number of active contributors, and notably, the relative lack of controversy and accusation ...especially since Farmdale was resolved that afflicts (in my experience) similar boards. Accusations and counter-accusation are turn-offs and cloud the excitement of anticipating the return of rail to our neighborhoods--which politically requires much listening and compromise.

So, ...bottom line, if this is all we hear of Dwight (Expolinefan), I'm sorry to lose his thoughts but look forward to other posts!

So lets knock off the name calling and all the other crap that goes on here. Dwight isn't the only one here that gets beleaguered. Some of you guys racked me over the coals because i was told by Flatiron that the CPUC has deemed the USC TRENCH a subway and some of you went just plain nuts. So show some respect, and listen to what the person is saying and if you disagree then politely agree to disagree.

Childish overreaction to minor criticism!

Do you honestly expect 100% of the people to agree with you 100% of the time on a discussion board? If you find such a board, let us know and we'll join it together. LOL
