Yesterday 03/15/2024 an Orange line bus and motorcycle collided. The man on the cycle was killed and the 12 year old girl on the motorcycle went to the hospital. Are grade crossing with gates in place or just traffic lights to control the vehicles.

The new station called Vista Canyon in Santa Clarita opened last October 2024. It cost Metrolink $23,000,000 to build and is lightly used.

The Metro board did approve the Dodger Gondola concept last week. Still unknown if it will be built. Hope not. Los Angeles has a lot more important needs for transit money. It is privately funded so it has no effect on Metro’s finances or any other projects.

The overhead bridge over the former Santa Fe in Santa Fe Springs CA has been completed. This bridge replaces the grade crossing at Marquant and Rosecrans per Cal Trans the most dangerous grade crossing in California. This will help Amtrak, BNSF and Metrolink.

The West Santa Ana Branch new name is now Southeast Gateway Line. But that - unfortunately - doesn't mean it gets built, does it?

Looks like that METRO has made the decision to go with heavy rail not monorail from the valley to the west side. Saw a post yesterday. where? last i checked they haven't chosen a LPA yet.

I’ve been starting to really notice when there are hiccups on Metro Rail. Most obvious is coming out of Little Tokyo Station and going to Union Station. When you’re on the overpass, parallel to the 101, a hold signal is issued, then the ATC stops the train. I figured out what is causing it. It’s because the gates haven’t come down at the Union Station access road. Once the gates are down, the train is released, then heads off to Union Station This does not happen southbound on the A line. Another place I think it happens is on eastbound on the E line from Expo/Crenshaw. The train frequently stutters as it’s heading East on what is supposed to be 55 mph track. The gate causing it is the one at 11th Ave/Degnan Blvd. Has anyone else noticed issues like this? Who at Metro can we pointed out to so it gets fixed?

They are repairing the catenary in the regional connector. So they’re running trains on the A & E Line every 20 Minutes if your lucky. My wife had to wait for 40 minutes for an A train at Little Tokyo yesterday. Then Metro put out a thing sayin they were increasing service.
But the service makes no sense. They are adding by having trains turn back at LATTC/Grand & Union Station for the A Line and LATTC/Ortho & Pico/Alisó for the E. Three of those stations have no rail transfer connections. Metro says it’s too hard to bring the trains to 7th and Metro or Little Tokyo where you would have a much better chance to get to your destination. Am I missing something here?

The elevators speak when they arrive at their destination. When arriving at BR ("bridge"), the elevator says "basement rear". LOL

It's a year later and from what I recently read, Cerritos filed a lawsuit. Are there any updates on any of that? From my end, I can confirm that there aren't very many trains running on the tracks along the Randolph part of the ROW (around Pacific Bl.) The last time I witnessed a train was in December. The crossing arms by where I live don't go down anymore when the UP workers ride the tracks on their modified pickup trucks. In fact, the electrical housing unit that powered the arms was removed. I want to believe this is progress, but this is LA and anything, terrible or good, can happen. What if the next thing on the tracks is a Metrolink train with service to Atlantic Av and Rosemead Bl. Speaking of Metrolink, you have the germ of an idea that I have been mulling over for a minute now, with all these damn fool ideas like an expensive subway to Union Station where they have to rip up Little Tokyo again. Because of the constant UP ROW issues that seems to be the core issue with this line getting funding (it is not the name) and the fact that is line is being designed like an express rail that is NOT connected to the A Line physically thru any track switches and the COG is dead set on going to Union Station (the LPA has Burbank Airport as the terminal). Perhaps this corridor should be rethought of as a High Frequency Metrolink line that will require electrification through EMUs. Then this could be the seed money to finally complete the Run Through tracks and provide frequent service to SE LA County and connect it to Burbank Airport even up to the Antelope Valley. I am thinking this way because if they are going to need to do a new EIR on this segment from Slauson to Downtown LA perhaps they could include this as an option.

With Metro celebrating 30 years of the Metro Red Line, I began searching online for old maps of the originally planned extensions. I thought it would be an interesting topic to discuss the original segment 3 extensions that were suspended, and if the extensions that were eventually built are better or worse than those originally planned extensions. For example, I think the current D line extension with the eventual K-Line is a much better system than the weird extension to Pico/Rimpau. On one hand, I would've preferred a Red Line extension to the east, but I think the Little Tokyo/Arts District we eventually got with the Regional Connector is a much better location than the station originally planned near the maintenance yard. Pico/Aliso would've been completely bypassed. The main I thing I like is that it would've set up the Red Line to be extended straight down Whittier Blvd to Whittier. I also wonder if ridership would've been any better with the Red Line versus the eventual Gold Line extension. Anyway, thoughts? libraryarchives.metro.net/DPGTL/pre-eir-eis-reports-and-studies/metro-red-line-segment-3-eastside-extension/1994-metro-red-line-segment-3-eastside-extension-preliminary-engineering-design-report-march.pdfView AttachmentView AttachmentThey could have grade-separated HRT along San Vicente to Santa Monica Boulevard in a trench, much like the 1927 plans called for, and then there would've been a proper subway to WeHo and Santa Monica without all the BHHS nonsense if perhaps a bit roundabout.
Plus it would've offered the option of a branch along the old Venice Boulevard ROW, either HRT in aerial or trench-separated configurations, or a separate line connecting at Pico/Rimpau station if branching one line into three would have presented too many operational challenges.

Common sense prevailed as Metro tweeted they are going with option 2 for C and K line - simple N-S and E-W alignment which will ensure adequate headways in all segments.

So you were able to navigate the buttons on the Bunker Hill elevator? Not at first. It took getting stuck in one to figure the buttons out. The public-usable buttons are: - BR - bridge
- S - street
- C - concourse
Buttons UA and A are not usable by the public. I don't know what the abbreviations are for. Some elevators have those buttons, and some don't.

So you were able to navigate the buttons on the Bunker Hill elevator? Today is my first workday using the new station. Experience was very smooth. Train arrived at 7th/Metro, and then continued on. I got off at Bunker Hill station, which was clean. One escalator and one elevator, and I was out. Hopefully the ride remains smooth, and the station stays clean - at least for a little while.

I know this board has slowed quite a bit over the last few years, but with the regional connector now open would it be appropriate to rename the forum folders to reflect the new line names. Makes sense. I'm not sure who is admin for this forum.
