Have the final cars in the 50-car order from Breda been delivered? I saw 745 in service this evening and was wondering if this less-than-glorious chapter in Metro history was finally wrapped up. Also, does anyone have news from Metro about how they're coming with bidding for the next order of LRV's?

I would think that all are in but don't know for sure. As for the next order I think that the rfp went out a couple of months ago. I haven't seen anything in the meeting notes after that.

I was in San Diego today (old-town) and there i saw some Breda low floor train cars, and some Nabi articulated buses and some New Flyer articulated buses too, Apparently the bus fleet is being repainted Red with White high lights, So San Diego transit is being repainted red and White and they wear the MTS logo.

As far as I know, all of San Diego's trolleys, both high and low floor, are various Siemens models. The newest ones are the low-floor S-70s, which are also used in other cities like Portland, Houston, Charlotte, and probably others I'm forgetting.

A breakdown of San Diego Trolley LRVs:
1001-1014 Siemens-Duewag U2 delivered 1980-81 (original cars) 1015-1024 Siemens-Duewag U2 delivered 1982 (service expansion) 1025-1030 Siemens-Duewag U2 delivered 1986 (for initial segment of East (now Orange) Line to Euclid 1031-1071 Siemens-Duewag U2 (for Bayside line, extension of East Line to El Cajon and South Line (now Blue Line) to County/Cedar 2001-2052 Siemens SD-100 (for extension of Orange Line to Santee and Blue Line to Mission Valley) 3001-3011 Siemens S70 (for new Green Line from County Cedar through Mission Valley and San Diego State to connect with Orange Line at Grossmont (Blue Line cut back to County/Cedar)
I think MTS has ordered (or will order) some more cars (S70s?) which will replace some or all of the 1980/81 cars (I think 1001 will be retained as a historic car).

Forgot to mention:
1031-1071 delivered 1988-1990 2001-2052 delivered 1995-1996 (I think) 3001-3011 delivered 2007 (I think)
Wikipedia (Yeah, I know) states that 57 additional S-70s will start arriving this year. Since they are the same model, I guess they will be numbered 3012-3068? All of the U2 were numbered in the 1000 series, despite the last ones arring a decade after the original ones, so seems reasonable that the same thing will happened with the newer S70s. We shall see.

I saw a trolley car that looked like a Breda, does Siemens have a trolley that looks like a Breda? ( I still think it was a low floor Breda that I saw) And Thanks for the fleet run down

There was a report last year that San Diego had sold four to six of their U-2 LRV's (the 1000-class, probably from the first two sets) to a city in Argentina. It was nearly 60 years ago that Pacific Electric sold all fifty of the 1100-class cars (mostly used on the Pasadena and Monrovia-Glendora lines) to a company in Buenos Aires. History can repeat itself. And thanks for the report on new cars coming to San Diego. This summer will see the 30th Anniversary of electric railway service returning to Southern California.

San Diego has three types of cars. The 80-foot U2's, 80-foot SD-100's, and the 90-foot low floor S-70's. The new car purchase will be low floor 80 foot cars that resemble the S-70's. SD needs the shorter cars to keep a 3 car consist shorter to fit within downtown city blocks.
None of the cars are Breda's.

Yes that is what I saw (it does look like a Breda). Thanks for setting me straight! And a good question is San Diego Loves Siemens, why does Metro hate them? Again, thanks a lot
