Solair, the huge condo-retail tower built atop the Wilshire/Western Purple Line station, has now been red-tagged by the county as uninhabitable.
The condos are probably all empty and unsold, but the shops have now been closed for a third straight week. The electrical and plumbing systems have failed. There's an old fire truck pumping water into the standpipes, and there is power for lights and the parking structure, but every business it has cannot operate.

Wow, Those were some expensive condos. I remember seeing an ad several years ago that they started at $700,000. Likely because they were literally right at the Red Line stop. Can you point me to a news story about this? I didn't see anything in the LA Times this morning.

If you ride to Wilshire/Western, you'll see the county red tag posted on the Edible Arrangements window, just east of the escalator portal. The old American LaFrance fire truck pumping the water is near 6th St.

Gathered from sources it seems a water leak caused a short in Solair’s main building electrical panel on the evening of January 18. The short triggered two fire sprinklers to be engaged and damaged the building’s main electric panel and switchboard. While nobody was hurt, the City fire officials required everyone to vacate the building.
Unfortunately reconstruction is estimated to take as long as 60 days and no one can go in until then. Hopefully they will come up with something. Seems like a design issue that needs attention.
