For those of us who believe that a Santa Monica Blvd. alignment is the second priority after Wilshire, I am wondering if a cute tourist-encouraging modality can be built on either La Cienga or San Vicente going up/down the hill to serve the tourist and club destination on the western part of the Strip.
Any rail service on the western part of the Strip there would likely preclude rail service on the more heavily traveled east-west/northeast-southwest core of West Hollywood on Santa Monica Blvd, which is not politically feasible or practically desirable.
While I think the strip can adequate be served with better bus service, particularly an all day limited/express/rapid bus, I'm wondering if in this creative city if there isn't something fun we can build to go/up down the hill.
If there is a place to gen fun, get funky and get creative, it seems the going up to the strip to/from SMB is a place to try it.

Good idea. How about making it into a loop via San Vicente, Sunset, La Cienega and Melrose?

Sounds good to me. Is that "Holly Trolly" still running? I avoid the Strip usually but with a dedicated transit option, going to the Whiskey or Saddle Ranch would be more pleasant

Have you ever taken the #2 bus in the evenings through the Sunset Strip? It can take 30-40 minutes just to get from San Vicente to Crescent Heights. It's horrible. Underground is really the only option for "adequate" service on the Strip. It will always be hopelessly gridlocked unless they limit vehicle access, but that is impossible with no other way to get to the area.

I have. Which can only be exceeded by congestion on Santa Monica Blvd. between Hollywood and Century City. That's a parking lot. My friend Stuart actually travels on Sunset because it has less traffic than Santa Monica.
But, that's the competition, between Santa Monica Blvd. and Sunset Blvd. for rail service. When the time comes, it may be quite the competition.
The way I'd serve Sunset is extending the Crenshaw Line up San Vicente to Fairfax, then going up to Sunset and over to H/H. The western strip is politically D.O.E. for rail unless Santa Monica Blvd. is served first. But this argument is already happening on the Pink Line thread.
