I've noticed within the past week, three of Metro's NABI 60-BRT Orange Line buses were retrofitted with newer type "sliding" rear doors instead of the typical inward-flipping style. Here's video of LACMTA fleet# 9335 on Saturday with the new doors.

I have ridden on one of these buses and I definitely think they are an improvement. With the old door design passengers had to stay clear of the path of the swinging doors to avoid getting hit. This new design gives passengers slightly more room by the rear doors which should help passenger loading and unloading and provide a little more space for standing passengers.

This type of door allows more standing room inside the bus so it's a good idea for the Orange Line buses.

What a good idea. I hate the doors that move in, absolutely no regard for the customers.

I like this, it is definitely an improvement. It would have a been a pleasant surprise to happen across an upgraded bus. Definetly, they also should look into this on the rapid buses on the 720, and maybe in some of the very crowded local routes. I hadnt really noticed it, but this one of the reasons that riding a crowded railcar is still more comfortable than riding a crowded bus. im going to keep an eye out for this next time I ride the orange line. EDIT: I just saw this: in this thread: transittalk.proboards.com/thread/192/major-720-changes-proposed
