I was looking at Google Maps today, and I noticed that if the Red Line is extended to Valley Plaza, it can then use the parkland alongside the 170 as a ROW until the 5. Right near there, there is a wash that goes between the 5 and the Metrolink ROW. West of Laurel Canyon, there appears to be some space on the south side of the wash and east of Laurel Canyon there appears to be space on the north side of the wash (although there appears to be some kind of mine). If this is as it appears to be, there could be an exclusive ROW for the Red Line between Valley Plaza and San Fernando since the Metrolink ROW appears to have extra room.

The new stations would be: Valley Plaza (Victory/Laurel Canyon), 170/Sherman Way (possibly connecting to new Metrolink station), 170/Roscoe (Wat Thai Temple--connected directly to Thai Town!), Tujunga Wash/Laurel Canyon (could be skipped), Whiteman Airport (San Fernando/Osborne), Pacoima (San Fernando/Van Nuys), San Fernando (San Fernando/Brand or Maclay) and Sylmar Metrolink.

I'm Thai and this sounds nice. It'd be nice to connect the Thai temple to Thai Town, and also the 170/Sherman Way is close enough to the NoHo Bangluck Plaza (there is one in Thai Town on Hollywood near Hollywood/Western); you'd need a 1 mile ride on the 163 or 363 to Coldwater Canyon. I doubt this extension is on the radar even though our mayor mentioned extending the Red Line to Sylmar; he also wants the Purple Line to go west. I'd rather see the Wilshire route finished first as this would provide more access to more attractions. Wilshire has so many attractions that Metro published a destinations pamphlet for Line 720, it is the only bus line to have it; there are pamphlets for the 4 rail lines. www.metro.net/news_info/publications/default.htm

I was looking at a satellite photo and noticed a possible ROW on the north side of Truesdale St, which would allow for a station closer to Pacifica Hospital. (Truesdale & San Fernando)
