This past Saturday, there have been more vehicles mysteriously parked at the Van Nuys station, more than even the typical weekday. But alas, these vehicles were grouped into the lot west of Tyrone. At first, coming back to Van Nuys on Saturday night, I thought what I saw what a tailgate party taking up the P&R lot; I didn't see the trucks earlier in the morning. But closer look shows they were all the same vehciles, Dodge Ram pickup trucks. And they were fenced; new fencing is in place in the lot. What has happened here is part of the lot is now used to store new vehicles for the Big Valley Dodge dealership located next to the Van Nuys station. This morning, the lot east of Tyrone filled with new Grand Caravans. Since the Orange Line isn't attracting a lot of drivers, specifically for the Sepulveda and Van Nuys stations, Metro must have decided it's best to lease out the unused spaces. In comparison, the North Hollywood Red Line lot is always filled to capacity.
Storage of new cars in a remote lot for a dealership is not new, I've seen Fords parked at a vacant lot on the northeast corner of Woodley and Roscoe for Galpin Ford, and new Nissans at the Macy's lot on the northeast corner of Oxnard and SR170 (Hollywood Freeway). Hope Metro gets something out of this practice.
