Today I was looking at Google Maps and noticed that the ROW from the cancelled Whitnall Highway crosses Lankershim just south of the Ventura County Metrolink crossing (@ Hart St). It branches in two, with one branch going to the San Fernando Mission and the other going to near Hansen Dam, crossing the Antelope Valley Metrolink at San Fernando & Art. What this means is that if the Red Line is extended up Lankershim, it can come out of the ground at Hart St and have its own ROW all the way to San Fernando (including extra space in the Metrolink ROW). I also noticed that there appears to be a ROW between San Fernando & Truesdale and the 5/170 interchange. This ROW could be used combined with space alongside the 170 for a route option which would serve Valley Plaza and the Wat Thai Temple.

Those ROWs are used by high tension power lines. The one leading to San Fernando and Sheldon comes from a DWP-owned coal power generating plant. The other one (which goes past my house) leads past San Fernando Mission/Alemany High School to the Sylmar Converter Station which connects to the Pacific Intertie. There was also talk about using part of the Tujunga Wash to run the Red Line, which would also get near Wat Thai.
