I took my first Megabus journey last weekend. We paid $16/round trip per person from LA to Vegas. What a deal! The Union Station location is very convenient, but very difficult to find once we were at the station. It took us 20 minutes to find the bus stop, and most of the attendants there had no idea what Megabus was. The bus stop is in an alleyway through the station, to a location right behind the Gold Line tracks. Megabus is not at the bus termial (our most logical thinking that it would be by the Flyaway, but apparently not).
Journey was 4.5 hours, with only one 20 minute stop at Barstow. The Vegas stop is in a gas station lot (looks like a gas station, but most likely their small bus station) between the airport & the strip; off Tropicana Avenue. No decent bus service or cab service from the LV GrayLine Center to the Strip. Luckily a shuttle came by and dropped us off at our hotel with a minimal charge.
Bus was more than half full. Definitly a good mix of people; i.e. low income, middle-class, few European tourists, etc... Bus driver noted that service has increased over the last month and said the LA to LV and LA to SF are their most popular routes. Hope to see more people utilize this great new service!

Note: Citizens Area Transit Line 201 runs on Tropicana Avenue. It operates every 20 minutes, and runs from 5 am. to 1 a.m. every day.

If it weren't for the fact that I sometimes ride into Union Station on a train that uses track 3 (from which you can see people walking over to the shuttle lot, which is what that alley is supposed to be) and sometimes see the Megabus vehicle parked there. I do have to say, that's smart (if inadvertent) advertising... I've heard people on the train say, "That looks like a long distance bus, I wonder what it is." 4.5 hours isn't bad at all, especially with a 20 minute stop in Barstow.

Bus connections at Union Station are very bad and inaccessible for many people. Buses like Silverline need to pull into Patsauras Plaza.
Greyhound and Amtrak bus terminals are too small and need expansion to be a true Transit Hub. I wish those snazzy apartments near Union Station were converted to a Bus terminal.
I never see anyone leave the Axis Apartments and board a train.
