hello everyone, i recently read the overhead wires report on whether or not the orange line should be considered a success. while the story was somewhat engaging, what really caught my eye was a comment by Tom Rubin. [available frequently to question in person at TTC monthly meetings] he make some very interesting claims about the mta, and how the orange line was designed. i'll take the comments with a grain of salt till i get some info on the man. but interesting read none the less. please check it out.

Interesting read. Thanks for posting it. I like Rubin's idea about running two buses at the same time to increase capacity. The platforms are long enough to do that.

Interesting read. Thanks for posting it. I like Rubin's idea about running two buses at the same time to increase capacity. The platforms are long enough to do that. I've seen this happened. Unfortunately, it was bunching. The other idea I proposed is to go with the Miami Option and route low-frequency north-south locals onto the busway.

You mean like the all-too-successful Harbor Transitway? No, I mean like the all-too-successful El Monte Busway, Ottawa Transitway and Miami's US-1 Busway. The most apt analogy is Miami because its busway is at the junction of its rail service. Dadeland = North Hollywood. I posited the Miami Option to fix the problem of riding a frequent bus service like the Orange Line and having to transfer to an infrequent north-south local line. You'd still maintain the high frequencies of the busway trunk, but you'd do it in combinations of north-south lines that would now get 30 minute service instead of hourly. The Valley gets more frequent bus service and one less transfer to get to the subway.
