Next weekend (June 20-21) is Pacific Electric Days at Orange Empire Ry. Museum in Perris (about 15 miles SE of Riverside). OERM will have many of the Red Cars in its collection on display or running for photos and/or passenger rides. This weekend will be the debut of PE "Hollywood" car in its "back to the 20's" paint job. There's still work to be done, but the car looks quite splendid. For more information go to "oerm.org"

This will be more of a general rail operation; PE weekend will again be in June on Fathers Day weekend.

Note that the green LAMTA (version1.0) PCC streetcar is "signed" for the "P/West Pico--East First" line. The yellow PCC is signed for "P/First & Chicago Only". Part of this route has been reclaimed by electric railway service as the Gold Line Eastside Extension.

Just a reminder, next weekend is Pacific Electric Days at Orange Empire. If you've been following the start of overhead wire installation on the Expo Line, come out and see the tower car that PE used in the "old days" before bucket trucks.

Hey Bob: Can or do you know if there are any P.E. train Bridges still in use in 2011? ???Thank you, the Roadtrainer

Metro is planning to re-use a bridge in Palms for the Expo line (formerly PE Air Line).
However, because that line shut down in '53 and the Santa Monica freeway construction moved that portion of the line a bit South around 1957 - I don't know if that specific bridge was moved or replaced at that time. Gökhan would know this. But unless Bob knows different, I think that's it.

;D If anyone is interested there is an old P.E. bridge on Culver Blvd. just west of the 405 west (by Berryman Ave). It has been converted into a jogging trail bridge but you can see it was once a P.E. bridge

Probably the most impressive PE bridge still in existence is the San Gabriel River bridge between Duarte and Azusa. It's now a bike and hike trail, but the concrete arches, and the steel spans that repaired a washout in 1938 are still in place. As far as ex-PE structures still carrying rails, there are probably some small structures on the Metrolink San Bernardino Line that date back to the PE era. For the record, PE existed as an operating railway until Aug 13, 1965, when the remnants were finally "adopted" by Southern Pacific (which owned most, if not all, of PE going back to 1911). Although PE officially disappeared on that day, union contracts specified special seniority rules covering ex-PE employees. One time around 1974, I got to talking with a brakeman on an SP freight that was "in the hole" at El Monte. He was a former PE motorman, and said that 3 of the 4 crew members had PE seniority.

My wife and I went to San Pedro to see the Battleship Iowa and then we went on the Waterfront Red Car Line. It is free all summer long, I was asking questions about the P.E. car 1058 and my wife and I got invited to go in to the car barn and we got a personal tour of car #1058. The person's name is Doug who is a weekend warrior at OERM in Paris, Ca. When his schedule permits. We also learned about the Skunks and Raccoons that come out at night, and the furrel cats could be seen running around. We felt highly privileged and blessed about getting a private tour. And say thanks to God for this tour.
