I think it was here where someone was wondering about Wifi on Amtrak. Amtrak had officially announced wifi on the Acela recently and said it would expand to other routes soon. I am on Train 785 from San Diego to LAUS and while it can be slow at times, as bad as dial up, the Connection is Constant and was able to handle My VPN Connection to work.
The Service seems to be provided by Sprint PCS Mobile

On Dec. 1st, Caltrans announced through their Twitter feed that "WiFi is available to Business Class customers. To date, eight trains are equipped, and eventually all PSL trains will have it."
I'm glad to hear it's usable now (despite needing improvement).

Will it only be available to business class customers even in the future?

Will it only be available to business class customers even in the future? In a LOSSAN report, Amtrak states simply "Full [wifi] implementation is scheduled for business class only by the end of November."

Ah, business class is generally a waste of money anyway and even free wi-fi won't get me in there.

Ah, business class is generally a waste of money anyway and even free wi-fi won't get me in there. Except for the Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays where Unreserved is SRO. Stand for 3 hours twice from SB or SD to LA US and you might Consider making sure you have a Reserved seat.
