Of late, some hit pieces have proclaimed all of this new transit work a boondoggle. Something along the lines of: Los Angeles doesn't have a central core and the push to have all the transportation converge there is artificial and merely glory seeking for the mayor. What they don't mention is that LA did have a vibrant downtown until transit became a nightmare. So here is the first article I have found which touts The Sheriff's Department moving back to downtown LA from Monterey Park - and they mention transit as one of the prime reasons. If you find any more (e.g. Law Firms, etc. Please post.) Sheriff's headquarters to move from Monterey Park to Downtown L.A.

SkyscraperPage has a pretty good forum about development downtown. It's largely about new multi-storey buildings, but as the economy hasn't been so great the last few years, there have been fewer construction projects to report. In that vacuum, it's had a fairly thorough coverage of new restaurants and businesses moving into downtown as well.

Interesting to note that a lot of law enforcement personnel in L.A. live in Ventura County and commute via Metrolink.
Also, the current Sheriff's headquarters is in a different part of Monterey Park that is over the hill and I-710 from the main commercial area, but is directly south of CSULA. Even with Metrolink (San Bernardino Line) and the El Monte Busway (Silver Line), it's still quite a hike to get to the headquarter. Moving back to downtown will be good; however, I can't fathom that 1000 space parking lot (even CalTrans district 7/LADOT's HQ has 1000 space lot), that's as much parking as the North Hollywood Red Line station! I guess that would be to house their squad cars.
