More frequent trains and later hours

Metro will be holding a press conference on Monday to unveil "More Trains More Often," a service that will run trains on the Red, Purple and Blue lines every 10 minutes until midnight. Currently, trains on each line run every 20 minutes during that time. Service on all lines stops by 1am.

Is it a holiday only thing, or is it permanent (as permanent as anything is in the world of transit)?

There is no service expansion until 2 am that will be announced Monday, that's a possiblity per the Metro minutes. The new 10 minute headways will run until EXISTING end times (i.e. 1 am). Nothing about 2 am will be confirmed Monday.

The proposed service expansion till 2 am is planned for the next fiscal year 2012-2013.

I am wondering if Metro is using Expo Revenue Service hours to pay for the increased headways since the opening of the line was budgeting for November 12 and it's become more and more apparent the line will not open till next year.

Using Expo budgeted operating budget probably wouldn't be a good idea, because this is one-time savings while once they go to more frequent trains at night it will be difficult to cut back in future years.

I am sure the BRU is not too happy about this given the bus cutbacks. Another round of ammo for them. I really hope the ridership justifies this.

Transit agencies have no problem adding and cutting service at their whims. It's easy enough o say "that was a trial, and it failed"

Yes that's what I posted. Every 10 minutes in 2 weeks and possibly until 2am next fiscal year. I never said that 2am was definite much less about to be announced. You took the quote and what I posted and conflated the two.

I guess that trains ran all night last night. I had no idea that was happening. I wonder how many people were aware and took advantage?

I was on a 1am NB blue line, and not many were on it, when I got to 7th they were making announcements of 24/7 service but no one was really there either.

So, anecdotally -- probably not very many.

I rode the Purple Line and the Red Line that weekend, the signs only said service until 4am. No mention anywhere else.
