Large single bore tunnel, apparently known in the Bay area as "the Barcelona method" is going to be used for the four station BART extension in San Jose and Santa Clara!
The Barcelona single bore method is coming to CA, this is only good news for future potential tunneling projects in LA.
the tunnel will be 7.25 km long.
The big advantage of the single bore method is that platforms are within the tunnel, meaning traditional station boxes are not built.
Since underground station boxes cost 500 million each to build, taking away that cost makes building subterranean rail less costly and means it doesn't take as long.

Interesting, I imagine they were looking at 7-8 meter wide tunnels if there were egress, operations and ventilation challenges. I wonder how much that would hold true for LRT. And I wonder if the problems are innate to emergency exiting a wheelchair from high platform trains into a tunnel with third rail?. The Barcelona trains have quite elaborate emergency rear exits from the train and put the third rail on the ceiling just because of emergency exiting wheelchairs.

The plan has been updated to use a larger tunnel so that trains can be side by side.
