The year is almost over, and there are supposed to be some new rapid lines by the end of December(Garvey, Atlantic) I haven't seen any rapid buses.. around. I hope that they don't postpone it.. they've done that too many times already.

This past summer's public hearings promised three Rapid lines. They're new in the sense of NBC's "if you haven't seen it, it's new to you" rerun debacle.
They are: 728-Formerly 328-West Olympic Boulevard 762-Formerly 361-Atlantic Boulevard Rapid between Pasadena and Compton 770-Formerly 368 and 370-Cesar Chavez Avenue and Garvey avenues
Line 770 would be new, as it combines the Cesar Chavez leg of Line 368 and 370.

What happened to the 733 Venice-DTLA?

What happened to the 733 Venice-DTLA? There was not going to be a 733 for the initial 28 lines. A draft had called for a 730, which would run via Venice Boulevard, and then turn at Crackton to serve Pico Boulevard, where Santa Monica would have a Rapid 7 between Crackton and Santa Monica. Instead, Santa Monica is looking to run Rapid 7 to Wilshire/Western Station.

I can't wait to see the 728. I go to Century City a few months out of the year, would love to take a Rapid instead of the 28/328. And, the 328 stops running after 5 pm coming from Century City to downtown!!! Watsupwitdat!

Well i just can't wait for the 770. I'm most likely gonna be taking that until Eastside is finished. Btw, I think they are gonna make new, Rapid stops. Once I see those new Rapid Signs up, I know that its gonna open up soon.

Here's hoping for a 733 sometime soon.
The folks on Sunset would love a 702, but since there isn't even an all-day 302 running, it's likely not in the cards anytime soon.
If only the 761 could go to Pico and the ExpoLine. Sigh. Damn turf wars.

If the 730 isn't going to run west of Pico-Rimpau, I would combine 730 and 733 into one route, which would follow Venice west of Pico-Rimpau and Pico east to downtown. Pico has more destinations between Mid-City and downtown, including St Sophia's and Papa Cristo's, and it runs right by the Blue Line station instead of a long block away. It could use either the 30's route up Broadway or the 33's route up Main/Spring, but it should definitely go to Union Station like the 33 (I live in Palms and one of my biggest complaints with the MTA is that when I want to Union Station, I have to stop at every stop since the 333 doesn't go all the way).

I saw an ad in the Monterey Park Comet, announcing that like 770 would open on Dec. 17. It didn't say anything about the other lines though. I'll be looking forward to that Christmas gift!

MP is getting better transit finally, I know there is a limited bus on Garvey, but the Rapid is a good improvement. I also hear that Atlantic will have a Rapid too and when the Eastside Gold Line is finished, it'll be easier to reach MP for some dim sum and Chinese tour buses.

as a resident of MP, I still don't really know why the Chinese tour buses stop in MP. Food??.. I don't know. MP isn't really a tourist area, unless you count the historic Museum in Garvey Ranch Park... Yet its still a great place to live. Top notch Chinese food everyday!!

The tour buses don't stop at Monterey Park, it starts there. The one tour I went on was for Ritz Tours on Atlantic south of Garvey to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas over a decade ago. Yes, the food is good, especially the Peking Duck.

Anyone know what the stops are on the 728? It's not up at metro.net yet.... All of Line 328's limited stops and anywhere a transfer can be made to an intersecting bus line west of Fairfax Avenue.

WELL, I saw the 770 roll down Garvey Ave. I wish they could put those nice Wilshire-style stations though. For the bus stops, all they did was cover the 370 sign with like a piece of paper, and added the 770 sign, which looks funny with its red stripe on the top. I still wonder why it took so long to create these Rapid lines. None of the buses that I saw were new, all they did was spray-paint red over them. It shouldn't take years just to spray-paint some buses. -.-

On the first day of service, 770 didn't even have red buses!
And those nice Wilshire-style "stations", in actuality a quarter-pipe canopy, are only on Wilshire and Ventura boulevards. No other Rapid line has them, and probably none will ever be converted.
Mac, also keep in mind the Rapid concept existed for decades before 720 and 750 debuted in 2000. It still does. It's called limited-stop service. A line gets limited service when the local bus has both serious overcrowding problems and heavy transfer activity.
Only three Rapid lines are virgin, meaning there was never a 300-series line they were upgraded from. All the rest were former limited-lines.

Meh, so much for that. Anyways, I've been noticing that traffic along Garvey Ave is getting worse. Especially during rush from Atlantic to Garfield, you'll notice the cars start to pile up, with a bus stuck in the middle. Granted, Garvey and Valley are the most traveled routes in the SGV, but these streets are gonna clog up soon.
