Does anybody know the status of the tunneling under Wilshire blvd? Last I heard was that our California senators were going to introduce the motion to the floor in February to get the tunneling ban overturned? Of course, we have the House who already overturned the ban, we just have 2 more executive branches to go through...

The latest on the tunneling is that one Senator has put a hold on the bill. So, the bill is bogged down using the fast track method.
That means that it needs to go through the Senate via introduction at a committee hearing and marked up. If this doesn't interfer with appropriations bills scheduled for introduction and hearings in April and May, the bill may get scheduled for a vote sometime in the Summer.
This could end up taking the rest of the year.

I wonder if the senator was influenced by the automaker lobby...... Maybe she's doing this so that transit funds can fund a BART extension instead...

It's got nothing to do with the auto lobby. Any Senator can put a block on anything that want to get consideration on their own issue. In this case, it's Senator John Sununu whose concern has nothing to do with transit. Rather than speculation on why these guys are doing this, it is just an everyday occurance in Washington for Senators to get attention and comprise on issues that they want tended to. Sununu also delayed this bill last session along with two other Senators. It's just the way that the job is played out in Washington. Nothing is simple in life, in transit or in politics.
