I took a map created by user bennyp81 and modified it for my proposed extention.[/b] I think this would be a great alternative for residents who commute to LA from communites of La Habra, Brea, Yorba Linda, North Fullerton, Whittier. Also woud be a benefit for Brea economically as a shopping destination especially with 2 stops in Brea. One on Brea Bl next to the promenade on Birch St. Second one on St. College by the Brea Mall. The ROW is wide enough to build a parking lot around it. Finally it would terminate on Kramer Bl. adjacent to Imperial Hwy.

Yea , it should go all the way to Beach Blvd. And follow the R.O.W. on Lambert Rd.

Considering how this line would, if anything proceed to the nearest Metrolink station before becoming a light rail into Orange County, I'd focus more on a Green Line/Gold Line extension/connection to the Norwalk Metrolink first.
Or throw away the OrangeLine Maglev project and replace it with a light rail to Orange County, or perhaps even Metrolink-style commuter service on the P.E. ROW.
Yes, there ARE a few OCTA folks who would like to extend the light rail system that Metro is building towards their borders, but that's years away.

Why not continue to John Wayne airport with a stop at Disneyland?

Judging from the traffic on the 5 between Downtown and OC, a Metro line connecting to OC would need to be of much higher capacity. I'd rather see the Metro Red/Purple lines continue southeast in an elevated/at-grade alignment. The trains already pop out of the ground south of Union Station. All they have to do is to extend some of the yard tracks.

What do you suppose this would cost, assuming it were extended to John Wayne Airport, with a stop at the Disneyland Resort? Would a .1% sales tax increase be enough to cover it?

I said "connecting TO orange county..." Metro is the transportation agency for LA county, and anything going into Orange County has to be funded by OC funds...of course OCTA can't even fund a mothafuggin light rail line so don't expect any Metro Rail line serving Disneyland or John Wayne Airport. I only meant a Metro Red/Purple line running above ground (think BART in the suburbs) and ending at or near the OC county line, where it would connect with Metrolink (more realistic, OCTA doesn't seem to mind funding Metrolink lines and improvements) or an OC rail system (which we'll never see in our lifetimes; in fact, we'll be taking our surfboards aboard the Purple Line to the beach before we'll EVER see an urban rail system in the OC...mark my words.

I overall agree with Elson, but I would not be surprised if--in about 10-20 years or so--we see a new push for some light rail connections in the O.C. Should the Gold Line be extended eastward to the SGV, the Expo Line be the huge hit that I think it will be, and the Green Line extended to LAX, I think there will be more calls to revisit light rail.
Unfortunately, the MagLev cloned zombies have taken over the Orange Line that could/should have been a LRT. A much, much, much more likely endeavour would be to see a combined Metro/OCTA/RTA effort to connect the Green Line to the Norwalk Metrolink station should the Green Line go to LAX and the Norwalk Green Gap be more glaring than it is right now.
I don't think this will happen for another 10-20 years...but I do think support for such an endeavour will reemerge. It's not as forgotten by "those in the know" in Orange County as you might think.

OCTA is supposedly going to implement 30 minute service on Metrolink, 18 hours a day. Extending this new service to Union Station should hold OC over for a while.

An extension of the Disneyland Monorail to ARTIC is not a part of the City of Anaheim 'Go Local' Transit Master Plan. The transit connection connecting the resort to ARTIC, whatever it may be, will have a stop at the tram loop area on the east side of the main entrance near the Metro & OCTA bus stop.
The following transit options are being explored: 1. Bus Rapid Transit: A fixed route bus service that includes features to increase the speed of the bus, such as bus only lanes, bus priority at traffic signals, less frequent bus stops, and fare collection at bus stops. Operates at-grade or elevated.
2. Bus/Shuttle: Small buses or vans operating as feeder routes to a fixed guideway transit system. Operates at-grade.
3. Modern Streetcar: Modern streetcar vehicles run on electricity that is provided by an overhead wire and can safely share their right-of-way with automobiles or pedestrians. Operates at-grade or elevated.
4. Monorail / Automated People Mover: Automated (driverless) vehicle. Includes Automated Guideway Transit (rubber-tired & steel wheel), monorail, low-speed Maglev. Operates elevated.

As far as getting to Disneyland couldn't we use the right of way that runs from Walnut Park to Anahiem(along Firestone and the five) once it gets to the westward turn in Anaheim it could go down Katella to the Metrolink Station
The gold line could extend down to Brea id like to see something to Yorba Linda but then again they already shot down a metrolink station there a light rail probably wouldn't be too popular
