In accordance with state law, the CA Secretary of State's office has certified all the ballot measures that will be on the CA ballot on November 4th. (They must be numbered between 131 and 105 days before the election). SB 1856, the long-awaited high-speed rail bond measure bill will be the first measure the voters will see as Proposition 1. Given that there are ten other measures (numbered 2-11,) I think that Prop 1 is the best number for this important measure to have. Check out all the measures here: www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_j.htm#2008General

If gas prices stay up until November, then this will be a shoe-in. But they are going to take major heat because of that ROW issue with UP.

I've come to believe nothing is a shoe-in, but I am hopeful in that it only needs a simple majority to pass. They have to get their house in order with UP and deal with that. It also helps that this is a presidential election and there is a candidate many young Californians are very excited about (and those are the most likely yes voters for this), so it is really now or never. I would be more worried about the MTA's sales tax increase passing, because that needs a 2/3 vote. Locally, the way to boost HSR is to point out that spreading air travel around to Ontario and Palmdale would actually be much more possible with HSR linking them. Everyone needs to be aware of this to get a maximum vote. Maybe we need to threaten Orange County with another airport to get their votes on this .
