I found this article today, and thought I'd share it: Spaceship subway station saves energy in JapanNow, it should be pointed out that not all Tokyo subway stations are like this one. With a hundred subway stations and thousands, if not millions, of station entrances, many of the stations are decidedly and by necessity (even in rail transit crazed Japan) utilitarian. But, like the article says, Shibuya is a hub, and it is an end-point as well, with more traffic than some stations, so making this busy hub into a showcase makes more sense. And, since one of the goals of transit is to make our lives more environmentally-friendly, it makes sense to have environmentally-conscious train stations.
