After today's Expo Meeting sounds like the Line will be turned over Next Friday as I have hear roomers that this would happen on the 14th Then If ?? on Monday Oct 17 they start Pre-Revenue/Training Service Metro cannot start the prerevenue operation immediately, as they have to first do their own tests. In the presentation, Eric Olson stated that the prerevenue operation is expected to begin late October or early November. So, you need to shift your timetable at least two weeks to the future. So, it will be sometime between December and January -- more likely January in my personal opinion (because of the lack of staff during the Holiday season) -- unless something happens and they decide to wait until the Culver City Station.

I still dont understand the concept of safety ambassadors being an issue.
It's a rail line in a city with many rail lines. This isnt a brand new space portal, it's technology that has existed in LA for well over a century. If we were in 1990, then perhaps I'd agree. But it's 2011. The concept of light rail isn't new to anyone that isn't an infant.
Open the line at 4:30am on December 5th and operate like every other damn rail line.
Do buses get "safety ambassadors" when a route gets added...?

Expo Line presale tickets are available now at the Western Station! I didn't run into any test trains today. Culver City OCS is still far from complete. Give it at least about a month for the hangers to be installed, supporting arms to be connected, wires to be tuned, and the TPSS to be hooked up. Then, train testing in Culver City will start.

Expo Line presale tickets are available now at the Western Station! I'm struck by the similarity of the station canopies of Expo to the un-built Orange County CenterLine. Here's 2003 art of a station in the median of Bristol in Santa Ana, with surprisingly-similar wavy canopies and flat rain shields suspended from angled arms. Lead designer David Thom of IBI Group was seeking something simple and modern.

Most major stations currently have at least one ticket machine that sells TAP cards.

Metro Board some time back authorized purchase of that lot, for either station parking, or bus layovers, or some such. Makes me wonder when the used car lot will be removed.

I thought it was for a entry plaza for Foshay Learning Center as part of the CPUC settlement.

They want to remove this as soon as possible but they can't because they have been desperately unable to locate the property owner (find out where he is) all this time.

Will Blue Line trains be stopping at Grand station? Nope, according to the notice, testing will only take place between 21st/Flower and La Cienega/Jefferson. It could be that continuous testing along the entire length of the alignment will only be done during the prerevenue operation, said to start in a few weeks. The Blue Line trains stopped at the Washington Station today with a bus bridge. They are probably finalizing the Expo - Blue junction.

Many thanks to all the Expo Experts and Exponents who have been keeping up with developments. I'm back in New England, where I've spent the last two days at Seashore Trolley Museum, "The Museum of Mass Transportation" which I call the "Mother Church of Electric Railway Preservation." Looks like by the time I get home next month, there will be plenty of action on the former Santa Monica Air Line.

I drove by late this morning and there was no equipment and no workers at the junction. I did see a hyrail pickup at Grand station with one guy that appeared to be doing something with a TVM, but that was the only work that I could see driving down Flower. They may have been working somewhere on Washington. Anyway the full blue line should be back open tomorrow for CicLAvia.

Once they start the prerevenue operation, we will see every other train coming from 7th/Flower keeping straight to the Expo tracks, without passengers of course. People will see a lot of "not in service" trains running through the Pico and 7th/Flower Stations during those six weeks.

Whether the Time-Line I have posted is factual or just my opinion to the Expo Line Opening Date is Not the Issue. Now the issue is, where to hold the Expo Line opening now that we are close to them announcing a date -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now the most important Question is where would they hold the Festivity's to open the Line?? What Location Wash at Flower and If So Stop Blue Line and All Street Traffic?? Or Near LATTCC?? and Just Close Flower from Wash to 21st Street?? Where due you See them having the Line opening Party?? Exposition Park makes most sense.

It seems like in the past, when they opened new lines, they had a little bit of this and a little bit of that at several of the stations, so all the communities involved would have something. However, I agree if there is to be one grand opening site — or at least one bigger than the others, the obvious choice would be Exposition Park. There's room there for plenty to happen, plus all of the existing museums which belong to all of Los Angeles County.

There is going to be an Expo Line maiden-voyage party? They had one for the Springfield Monorail. See 14:45 of the following video for the start of the opening-day festivities, where celebrities are coming for the maiden voyage. Then at 16:45, you will see that there is a bar in one of the cars, serving the patrons drinks, who are having conversation in an upscale party setting. Springfield Monorail video

Problems! They've barricaded the line at Crenshaw and are working on the tracks. I've also heard rumors that all crossing gates were shorted out after Wednesday's first rain of the season, which dropped about 1.25 inch of rain. No train testing can be done at the moment. This has certainly a potential to delay the opening. If the crossing-gate rumors are real, imagine what will happen after the heavy rains start. The Expo Line could end up like the Springfield Monorail above. LOL

After what I saw yesterday and the rumors I heard, I am now worried that Phase 1 will ever open. Perhaps we'll have the segment between Culver City and Santa Monica open in 2014 and the segment between Metro Center and La Cienega open in 2020. LOL This contractor is as bad as it could be. They had no technical merit and they robbed Los Angeles hundreds of millions of dollars in overages. This is what happens if you choose the contractor solely based on lowest bid instead of best value (low bid and good technical merit) and, even worse, if you don't cancel the contract when they prove to be flaky. This contractor is Los Angeles' Leonard Nimoy.
