FYI, the Expo Line can now be found in Google Maps if you request transit directions on April 29th or later. (I'm not sure why April 28th is not included.)

It appears as though there's enough room on Flower, between Pico and Venice, to make a platform for 6 LRV's. They could configure them as 2 2 2 or 3 3 or if necessary 1 2 3. Is that the direction they're going in?
BTW, does anyone know when train testing will resume?

BTW, does anyone know when train testing will resume? The train testing to La Cienega has never stopped. If you're referring to Culver City, it will resume once they repair the underground OCS feed on the Ballona Creek bridge ramp.

Edit: nevermind, you were referring to the Expo station icons. I don't see that either, I'm guessing once it opens it'll be there.

Yes, I meant the rail tracks and stations drawn on the map. Here is the route map of the Expo Line on Google Maps Directions, showing with the correct color and line no.: Expo Line on Google Maps Directions

When are they going to get everything drawn with high enough quality to get a Google transit layer for LA?

In the new map, some of the station's names have been changed ie. Mission Station on the Gold Line is renamed to South Pasadena

Watts Towers are a registered historical landmark and I had heard that they would change it. I am glad it's done.
I am annoyed they still haven't changed National/Palms to simply Palms, despite so many letters from the Palms Neighborhood Council.
I don't think Olympic/26th has ever been changed to Bergamot. They might do so in the future.

I don't want to get you or anyone else jealous but I will ride the Expo Line on my Birthday next week along with the Friends 4 Expo and Light-Rail for Cheviot core members. Bart was going to get a ride for TTC. I don't know its status.

When are they going to get everything drawn with high enough quality to get a Google transit layer for LA? The reason this happens is Metro hasn't drawn the shape in their scheduling software, so when it's exported into a General Transit Feed you get the default point-to-point lines. It's super unlikely that they'll change this, but I'll mention it the next time I run into the powers that be. Also, that new Metro map doesn't have the new Artesia Transit Center name.. (Harbor Gateway Transit Center).

This would massively change the impression that LA is a city you can't get around without a car. If they won't do it, couldn't they somehow let volunteers do it and they can verify the resulting shape files? It just has to be done once per line, and most other cities in CA seem to have done it (check out San Diego, Sacramento, San Francisco, etc.).

ok, so the Teal or Acqua color is now Expo Line. Seems to be the first line with a name, rather than just a color. My additional suggestions= >Gold= Foothill Line >Blue= Long Beach Line >Purple= Wilshire Line >Red= Hollywood line >Green= Century Line >Silver= ? >Orange= ? >Crenshaw line is ok, so call it "Pink" >The West Santa Ana Branch = "Yellow" >Whatever line goes from Santa Monica to Long beach along the coast = "Tan Line" Any other thoughts ? Interesting that the teal/Aqua line stayed as Expo after all this time.

And, the lines should also be numbered, say in order they came into service Long Beach #1, etc. That way on any of the maps , a line will have a name, color and number. Colors are easy of course for language barriers, numbers are fairly universal and names add some local characteristics to each line.
Also with numbers, if you wish to short turn a train, you can separate the service= LA to Long Beach #1 A LA to Willowbrook #1 B
Or, if you wish to run skip-stop device, same thing. A-B-A skip
or line the song said, "take the A train"

It would be a lot of work if it was done externally like that, by work I mean every time you generate a new General Transit Feed they'd have to manually edit it. It wouldn't be so bad if Metro's feed wasn't huge.. Honestly, I think the biggest improvement they could make before the shapes of the lines are: A) add fare structure g.co/maps/7u22s - Notice how at the bottom of the instructions it tells you that your trip will cost $1.40 (& even has vs driving cost). $1.40 = $1 base fare + $0.40 for a transfer. g.co/maps/hkwt2 - Notice how this calculates Base + Zone fare B) better stop accuracy g.co/maps/er4ww - Notice how on the southwest corner the bus stop from the Torrance Transit feed is right on top of the stop, while the stop that took the Metro feed at the NE corner is on the street.

Are we back to discussing colors/letters for rail lines? Why not look at Minneapolis which recently decided to ditch "Hiawatha Line" to color lines? Sorry, but colors are pretty cool. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiawatha_Line)
As Gokhan said, this topic has been beaten to death.

Expo Line pre-opening ride, after 11 a.m., 4/4/2012. Be sure to watch in full-screen HD, 720 or 1080 if you can.
I omitted some street and station stops; total time end-to-end was 28 minutes. Not bad for an iPhone 4S: I shot through the operator's cab open door; the streaks are in the windshield film.
It took this long to get it edited and uploaded in HD, finally using Windows Live Movie Maker after problems with Premiere Elements. Sound was predominantly conversation, so I left it silent.

And here are the station arrival timings, rounded from my video clips of this trip. The largest street delays were at 18th Street, Adams Boulevard, 28th Street, and Normandie Avenue.
7th Pico -- 2 23rd -- 5 Jefferson -- 3 USC -- 2 Vermont -- 1 Western -- 4 Crenshaw -- 3 Farmdale -- 2 La Brea -- 2 La Cienega -- 4

Somewhat off topic, but as a Gold Line enthusiast, I was interested at the change from "Mission" to "South Pasadena" for the only stop in that city. This is something I've been commenting about almost since the line opened. As Mr. Spock would say, "Highly logical." Now if we can just change "Sierra Madre Villa" to "East Pasadena" I will be very pleased.

OMG, Frank Booth is on this board? Watch out, roadtrainer. Gökhan: As the guy who probably has the most posts on this board, we will find a spot on the test train for you. For others who want that test ride, make sure you have donated or contributed to the Coalition. For the last 12 years we have made a difference in changing Los Angeles. It is only fair that you support us. For those that don't remember, the Expo Line was fully funded as a Busway and many elected officials in 2001/02 had their hearts set on a fully funded Busway to Santa Monica. The Advocates 10 years ago spent a solid two years changing the outcome to electric light rail. And we may get the I-405 Rail Tunnel to LAX and to the Valley, instead of another stupid Busway.

We'll all get to ride on opening day, and that's good enough for me! I think that it's great for Metro to give rides to the people that have supported the line for so long (either actively or passively through TTC donations), but since I don't count myself in that number I'll look forward to opening day as well. I'm really looking forward to riding the first revenue train. The public timetable should be published soon and I'll assume that as with the gold line that the first train will be the one in the timetable.
