It looks like RTA has plans to launch 2 more CommuterLink bus routes for FY 2009. The route that will connect Riverside County to Escondido is long overdue and I believe that it will be just as popular as CommuterLink Line 206.
Friendship Transportation at one point advertised similar commuter services, but their Web site now has a "Comming Soon" front page which has been like this for about 2 years.
I'll keep a watch for the public hearings. RTA is still planning these routes and they still need to be approved by the finance committee, the planning committee, and the Board.
.............................................
On November 7, 2007, the Board approved service changes that will
commence in mid-January 2008 with additional changes scheduled to occur
in July and again in September 2008. One of several changes scheduled for
this January is the implementation of new CommuterLink Route 210. This
route will originate in Banning and travel to the Downtown Riverside
Terminal with stops in the cities of Beaumont, Moreno Valley, and Riverside.
Service for this new route will be provided by an outside contractor using the
three mid-size vehicles currently providing service on CommuterLink Route
206. The 206 will be transitioned from a contractor-operated to a directlyoperated
route as ridership has increased beyond the capacity of the midsize
vehicles. Further, it has become more economical to provide this
service utilizing 40-foot buses.
Two newly created CommuterLink routes are scheduled for implementation
in fiscal year 2009. Routes 212 and 214 will begin service next July and
September, respectively, providing service from San Jacinto and Hemet to
Riverside and Escondido, respectively. In order to launch these new
CommuterLink services, staff is recommending the purchase of eight (8),
Type VII, 26-passenger mid-size vehicles. Mid-size vehicles provide a safe,
attractive, and flexible alternative to the smaller Type II vehicles and are
more economical to operate than full-size 40-foot buses.
