I've heard that the 405 Freeway sees 280,000 commuters per day. What does this mean, specifically? Is this 280,000 cars or 280,000 people? Are these single trips or round-trips?
What makes the figure "tick up?" When they do these estimates, do they mean someone entering the freeway by way of an on-ramp? When a car transitions from the 105 to the 405, is the car counted once for the 405 and once for the 105, or just once at whatever freeway it started on?
When I drive I take the 10 to the 110 to the 105 to the 605 to the 91 to the 5 to get home from work. Was my car counted six times or just once? Or was it counted once for the LA County Freeway System and once for Orange County?
So when they say there were 280,000 commuters on the 405, what does that mean?
