The Metrolink website shows the Placentia station as "future station". Does anyone know what is the status of this station? And how would trains be routed in the future when this station becomes operational?
Right now most of the 91 trains on the schedule is actually phantom train as it is actually a combination of LA-OC trains (600 service) and OC-IE trains (800 service) with a transfer at Orange. If the Placentia station comes online, I assume Metrolink will add more 700 service (91 line = 7xx) through service from LA to Riverside. How would this impact the rest of the system? Does the track have enough capacity from Fullerton to Downtown to handle more trains?

You can attend and find out a direct answer.

And how would trains be routed in the future when this station becomes operational? This OCTA informational PDF (from 2009) indicates that the station should be completing final design right about now. The station is forecasted to start construction in 2012 or 2013. Right now most of the 91 trains on the schedule is actually phantom train as it is actually a combination of LA-OC trains (600 service) and OC-IE trains (800 service) with a transfer at Orange. BNSF won't allow any more Metrolink trains on its tracks between Redondo Junction and Fullerton until the corridor triple-tracking is completed. That's why OCTA's planned expansion of Metrolink service will only go as far north as Fullerton. Edit: Bart beat me to it. Yes, Fenton would definitely be the best source for updates on all of this.
