(I wanted to post this Hypothetical thread into the Expo posts, but couldn't do it)
Suppose the MTA had a Billion dollars earmarked -and other extensions/plans are already built ie Claremont Gold Line, Eastside Line, Downtown Connector, Green Line Extension only to LAX and South Bay Galleria- but it can only be used to fund extensions or service ameninties/improvements of the Expo Line, where would you all put them and why?

I am not sure what you mean by "but it can only be used to fund extensions or service ameninties/improvements of the Expo Line" since in your scenario the Expo has not yet been built. So, if the funds are available for this, I would build the Red Line extension to Santa Monica before anything else. This would obviously have the largest ridership of any potential line, as it would connect the rail system with the West Side.

Assuming there was no Expo, I would throw that billion to build Expo. Assuming there was an Expo Line, I would use half of the billion to fund the Norwalk Green Line extension and the other half to build a Lincoln Blvd. rail line to Jefferson and Lincoln--thus servicing a huge portion of the Westside.
The problem is that we are billions of dollars away from what we should have had decades ago.
I also sort of agree with Bert, but a billion would only get the Red Line as far as Fairfax...
