Just in case anyone here is interested, I just found out that the Coast Starlight will have a detour between Los Angeles and Sacramento via Tehachapi and Bakersfield. This will happen from October 23rd to the 29th and this is already in the Amtrak reservation system. I hear that the Coast Starlight will not be stopping in Bakersfield, but instead the train will come straight down the UP Valley Line.
The dates I have are. For train #11 (southbound) October, 23, 25 and 28
For train #14 (northbound) October 24, 26 and 29.

How did you find out about this? I don't deny it since the Northbound train is showing a 9:30PM arrival in Sacramento, but none of the usual train forums are talking about it and usually the fares surge when this happens.

I think your info for the southbound train is wrong. The reservation system spits this out for 10/24/08 for train #11.
Actually, here's what Amtrak.com says.
That doesn't sound like what you just said.

I think your info for the southbound train is wrong. The reservation system spits this out for 10/24/08 for train #11. Actually, here's what Amtrak.com says. That doesn't sound like what you just said. The Coast Starlight doesn't normally arrive into Los Angeles. Until 9:05pm. Permitting it is running on time. That is the correct information. Also The Northbound Train # 14. Does not arrive into Sacramento until about Midnight. Note-It takes the Coast Starlight about 14 to 15 hours between Los Angeles and Sacramento. If you put in a Different Station. Like Van Nuys or Oakland. On the dates I have mentioned. You wouldn't be able to catch 11 and 14 on those dates from these Stations. Amtrak doesn't always make announcements with they are making Detours for their Trains. Also Trainorders.com and NARP also had this News. And I did check with Joseph Yannuzzi Of Amtrak. To confirm this as well.

The Union Pacific is doing track work on the Tunnels above SLO. I s the reason behind the detours. There will also be additional detours for the Coast Starlight. Maybe around the Thanksgiving Week.

I know when the southbound Coast Starlight gets into LA. But I posted that it was detouring on the 24th. You said it was detouring on the 23rd.
