Elsie tunneled 95 feet last night. I guess they would slow her down if she catches up to Soyeon?

Division 20 Portal Widening & Turnback Facility Project is key to the Purple Line extension. It will widen access to the Red/Purple Line yards, reconfigure storage tracks, and build a new turnback facility. Work begins on Monday.

Yaroslavsky and Korbatov. Because on the Purple Line extension, they were the ones who put the sand in the gears.

Some interesting tidbits from Metro staff at the recent Construction Committee meeting on January 17, 2019. metro.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=1026They said the TBMs for Section 1 are moving faster than scheduled and the first TBM is around 3,000 feet while the second TBM is at around 1,100 feet. They said the TBM launch shaft has already been completed for Section 2. Not sure if that is accurate. The Notice to Proceed for Section 3 of the Purple Line extension has finally been issued to the tunnels contractor, they can finally start work and they had a kick-off meeting with the contractor on January 16. They expect to go to the Metro board for approval of the stations & track contract soon, but the contract award will be subject to a full-funding grant agreement from the FTA.

Pretty sure they’re still doing piles for the tbm launch box

Elsie is only about 2 blocks behind Soyeon, past Tremaine Ave. Soyeon is at around Rimpau Blvd.

Elsie is only about 2 blocks behind Soyeon, past Tremaine Ave. Soyeon is at around Rimpau Blvd. 1980 and 3060 feet, respectively Soyeon is a third of the way through reach 1 Probably had a scheduled maintenance stop at the third mark which is why Elsie has caught up until she does the same.

The December 2018 project status report is out for the Purple Line Extension Section 2. media.metro.net/projects_studies/pm/images/report_pmo-ple-section2-2018-12.pdfThe project’s construction progress as of December 31, 2018 is at 14.25%, which is an increase of 0.65% versus the 13.6% progress as of November 30, 2018. This is ahead of schedule as it was only planned to be 0.46% complete by now. Looks like they forgot to update the overall progress number, which only says 14% as of November.

There was a Purple Line Extension community update meeting yesterday. There is a presentation at the link. bit.ly/2RMvJDIThe biggest news is that Metro seems to have agreed to betterments for Beverly Hills as conditions for constructing through Beverly Hills. These include an extra north station entrance, 24/7 security including use of bomb-sniffing dogs, paddle-style gates, daily cleaning and public restrooms (though it seems to allow Metro leeway to provide the restrooms as part of a future development).

Apparently "new north portal" means a new north entrance at either Canon or Beverly, in addition to the original (south) entrance at Reeves.
It was smart of the City of Beverly Hills to salvage what it could out of their pointless waste of its taxpayer money. I'm surprised it got as much as it did. (To put it another way, I'm surprised Metro agreed to so much.)
I wonder what the total increased construction and operating costs (for Metro) will be. Glad to see bathrooms and staffing.

I'm surprised too. How will they justify 24 hour security and paddle gates at these stations, while everything else in the system is a free for all? I don't blame BH in asking for this as these seem like good things. My hope is that Metro sees the effectiveness of these security and fare enforcement measures and applies them across the system as much as possible.

How politically popular does metro think it will be to give Beverly Hills the luxury metro experience when the rest of the system languishes?

How politically popular does metro think it will be to give Beverly Hills the luxury metro experience when the rest of the system languishes? I understand what you are saying but those things aren't "luxury" though. It's the kind of bare minimum level of amenity that any new-built metro station should have. It's just that our expectations are so low that Metro can get away with not building them.

the incredible speed of phase 2 is a remarkable difference from the incredible slowness of phase 1 or the regional connector!
Gee, I wonder which contractor thinks they will get the golden goose of the Sepulveda HRT tunnels and stations contract?

Gee, I wonder which contractor thinks they will get the golden goose of the Sepulveda HRT tunnels and stations contract? Phase 1 of the purple line extension is currently 1 year ahead of schedule. That’s impressive, living less than a mile from wilshire/fairfax from 2012-2018, the construction seemed utterly interminable and insanely slow to get anything accomplished. phases 2 and 3 seem significantly ahead of where phase one was at the same point in time
