The state awarded $82 million in grants today to the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) Rail Corridor Agency today in partnership with local agencies. The two big projects included in that chunk of money are: 1) $66 million for capacity improvements between Miramar and Santa Fe Depot in San Diego, including some double tracking and new bridges, as well as rebuilding much of Carlsbad Poinsetta station to remove its bottleneck. Will piggyback with other Federal and Local funding on the corridor. 2) $15 million to lease 31 Talgo passenger cars for use on the San Luis Obispo to LA route, replacing the current equipment. Should add at least 1 daily round trip, while also being faster to accelerate and more comfortable for passengers. The route may get as much as 35 minutes (!) faster www.calsta.ca.gov/~/media/CalSTA/docs/pdfs/2016/Detailed%20Project%20Award%20Summary%20-%20Final.pdf?la=en

The overhead bridge over the former Santa Fe in Santa Fe Springs CA has been completed. This bridge replaces the grade crossing at Marquant and Rosecrans per Cal Trans the most dangerous grade crossing in California. This will help Amtrak, BNSF and Metrolink.
