Bus Driver Kills Pedestrian
I don’t know where to post this. Could not find this posted on the web, yet. Major TV, Radio, and Print sites for the LA area.
I heard on the news today that a MTA bus driver killed a pedestrian that was running in front of the bus. The pedestrian ran in front of the bus and jumped on the bike rack in front of the bus. The bus ran over the pedestrian who died in the hospital. Upon investigation, the driver and pedestrian has had confutations in the past. The bus driver was booked for murder and is being held on $1,000,000 bond.

Robert,
I don't know if you know this, but the article was printed in the LA Times. (The article also described another unfortunate bus-pedestrian encounter elsewhere in LA on the same day.) A couple of months ago, I requested from MTA a count of all of the pedestrian deaths and injuries caused by buses during all of 2001.
MTA's response was:
1,500 pasengers injured
1,135 non-passengers injured
Upon a second request to get data on fatalities, I was informed that there were 14 fatalities, all non-passengers.
I had been saving this data for a lengthy post on the "joys" of bus riding, but this is as good a time as any.
By the way, if this hasn't already been discussed at length here today, there was an extremely well-researched and well written article on pedestrian fatalities and injuries in LA county. I thought that this frank and unvarnished discussion was unusual for the LA Times. It should be read by everyone on this board, and discussed at length. Its implication are crucial.

Was this in Monday's edition? What was the title of the article?

Roberto,
The article starts on the front page of the Monday edition. It is titled "Inequities in Pedestrian Deaths". Header: "Safety: Times Study finds Latinos, seniors at highest risk. L.A. County leads in walker fatalities." I hope you can find it.
