I was wondering. Does anyone here. That maybe the abandon Rail Line that goes up to Bishop. and over into Hawthorne, NV Should be rebuilt for passenger and even freight Service. At one time there was a both a Standard and Narrow Gauge Track. That ran from the Mojave Jct. to Lone Pine. As a Standard Gauge Track. Then Narrow Gauge through Bishop. and linked up with with the UP (ex SP) Mina Branch South of Hawthorne NV. And
I had been able to attend a few copies of a Book called Railroad Atlas Of North America Which has maps of all the current and long abandon Rail Lines. the one book I have. has all the Rail Lines in California and Nevada. Which allowed me to research on this Rail Line .

The Laws RR Museum has plans to build a line from the museum to Bishop, over a route that was originally surveyed for a trolley line about a hundred years ago. Other than that, the likelihood of any revival of rail service in that area is quite remote. There are a variety of reasons why rail lines are abandoned, probably the most common is trucks and automobiles were faster and cheaper. Another reason, common in the West is the mines and/or forests that provided cargo for the trains gave out.
