Anyone interested in seeing the A380 land at LAX next week?

sure, why not? although I am first and foremost a rail transit fan, I also consider myself to be a transportation fan in general. as much as I hate to admit it, I do enjoy viewing the dazzling technological marvels on display at your average auto show (and I like to silently laugh at the obscenely-inefficient gas guzzlers and the surreal ways in which they are marketed ;D). cruise ships and windjammers do impress me as do airplanes and airports (even as they confound and irritate me when I need their services) the first Airbus A380 to land at LAX will certainly be a historical curiosity. unlike the lowly 737 or 717, these superjumbo jets are clearly designed for the sort of air runs (L.A. to Japan, L.A. to Europe, etc.) which would not be easily replaced by high-speed rail or even telecommuting- there are simply some experiences which have to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. at the same time, the size of these behemoths should serve as a reminder as to exactly why we need to upgrade the airport and, of course, establish rail service at LAX in the form of Green Line light rail and commuter express trains as soon as possible. too bad I have to work that day

Vice versa from James, I'm primarily a commercial aviation fan but also consider myself an enthusiast for transportation overall. I'll definitely be there this Monday though I'm going to be with around 60 other Airliners.net forum members.

Maybe I'll take the Green Line there and walk down Aviation to get shots of it going over me.

We're looking at around a 9:30AM arrival. A press release noted that it will be landing on runway 24R on the North Complex so it looks like the In-N-Out at Sepulveda would be an advisable spot for an excellent view of the landing (and maybe catch a whiff of the smell of the rubber depending on the coastal breeze .

I wonder if you can order a "Double Double, Airbus Style" that day.

I was supposed to post this just after it happened but it took me nearly a week to remember. Anyhow, I was in LAX last Monday morning to sight the first A380 arrival. Here's the pics I took: NICE! I was going to go but I assumed the overcast sky would make me see barely anything. I'm sure that's what dissuaded lots of people as well.
