I was wondering where the best location is for long term parking at LAUS. I noticed its more expensive to park at the LAUS lot but Patsaouras also has its own long term parking. Which is the insiders' choice?

Haven't done it lately, but the underground parking next to the Metro building (I think that's Patsaouras) was cheaper than the Union Station parking, what little is left of it. A few years ago my wife and I took the Coast Starlight to Portland and back; as usual the train was late, but a station worker with an electric passenger cart took us right to our car. Be warned--getting out of the station during late hours can be tricky--only one of several exits is open, and one time I had to wake up the parking attendant. If you're going on a major excursion (like 5 days or more) go to the parking office and ask for a long-term parking permit--I think it's done so they won't wonder if a car has been abandoned (wise precaution with cars like I used to drive)

Well my trip was eventful to say the least, mainly because Amtrak didn't know which track our train to San Diego so we were sent to one train, boarded, and then told that wasn't our train. This happened twice. Let's say there was chaos in the tunnel for about 20 minutes.
Nevertheless, the parking lot at Patsaouras is not designed to make it easy for the first time Amtrak rider out of LAUS. They need to put up lots of signage telling people where Union Station or "Amtrak" or "trains" are because "East Portal" or "Patasaouras..." has no meaning to lay people. Elevators did not tell you where to get off or anything. Lots of people were wandering the parking lot trying to find out how to get to LAUS. Also, no signs at Union Station directing you to long term parking either. It is as if they forgot about the rider who may not arrive to LAUS by train/bus. This is in need of huge improvements.

Union Station is in Downtown. Downtown parking is expensive. Union Station is no exception.

If parking in downtown was cheap....why would we take Metro?
