so...... is anybody going to go to National Train Day at Union Station Saturday? I'm going to be there, if for no other reason than I'll be taking my regularly-scheduled "once every two weeks" Amtrak trip from the San Joaquin Valley down to L.A. I'm not a fan of Drake Bell, but the rest of the stuff sounds just perfect for rail transit geeks.... I may not have time to check this message board before I have to pack up and go, so I'll just keep my eyes open for anyone who may look like a transit messageboarder ^_^ www.NationalTrainDay.com

To all hands: TRAC & Transit Coalition are sharing a table for National Train Day at LA Union Station on Saturday, May 9, 2009. We will need volunteers to staff the table from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Also, there is an opportunity to promote related projects such as Bikes, Federal Transportation Authorization (T4A), Coast Starlight Communities, State Transit Funding and Peds. We just need to hear from you to staff the event. Write us.For those in Northern CA or other local that will be hosting NTD, we'd like to have you help by representing TRAC and Transit Coalition at one of these events. Let us know ASAP. If there are local NTD displays in places such as Fullerton or San Diego, we also need volunteers to staff. Write us.Thanks, Bart!

Both Transit Coalition and Train Riders Association of California and perhaps Friends for Expo are sharing a joint pair of tables. Now, we need you to volunteer to help us from set up at 9 a.m. to shutdown at 4 p.m., with the show table staffed between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. At this point, if you can volunteer, please email me. Besides staffing Union Station, we need some volunteers at Van Nuys. Please let us know ASAP.

it is looking increasingly likely that my busy schedule (nothing quite like working late) won't allow me to attend this year's event at Union Station like I did last year. if it's anything like last year, it should be well worth it — last year's event drew a huge crowd, many of whom probably would have been at the station anyway to catch a train, but still an impressive turnout. the closest train station to my current location is Hanford, which didn't have much going on last year, but Fresno looks like they will.
