As many people have posted before, the Gold line trains never match up with the red line trains. In other words, whenever a Gold line train arrives, a Red line train leaves. I think they now solved this problem with a new Gold line schedule: metro.net/news_info/press/metro_210.htm

L.A. Metro to Improve Gold Line Service Starting Dec. 16
* Metro Gold Line Service Update: Trains to run more often, serving all station stops during peak periods
Beginning Sunday, Dec. 16, The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will change its operating schedule for the Metro Gold Line to improve train service for all Metro Gold Line patrons.
Trains will now operate every 7-8 minutes during the peak morning and afternoon rush hours, down from the current average of 10 minutes for local trains.
These service improvements are made possible in part by discontinuing Express Service, which made only six stops in 13 during peak morning and afternoon periods. Trains will now stop at all stations between downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena throughout the day.
Mid-day trains will now run every 12 minutes, offering one additional trip per hour from the previous 15-minute schedule. Likewise, weekend trains will run every 12 minutes from mid-morning until early evening, offering one additional trip per hour from the previous timetable.
The new schedule will facilitate access to all Gold Line Stations all day, where a growing number of large transit and business-oriented developments are now located. The change to 12-minute service during mid-day will now match Metro Red, Blue and Purple Line mid-day schedules, reducing overall trip times for patrons transferring to and from the Metro Gold and Metro Red Lines at Union Station.
Metro Gold Line service changes are part of Metro’s biannual service change schedule. Metro has made ongoing service improvements, reducing end-to-end travel times from 35 minutes to 30 minutes since the Metro Gold Line opened in 2003.
