As I was heading downtown today, I noticed the following lovely structures being installed around the elevatora on the southbound side of the 37th St. Harbor Transitway station: Chain-link cage at street: Chain-link cage taking shape at platform-level: The cages weren't locked yet, but when they are locked, the platform will not be reachable by wheelchair (or easily by bicycle). It also is a tight fit to walk along the platform. My theories: Best-case: new elevator installation/improvements? Likely-case: ill-conceived method of combating the homeless that find a home in these elevators.

And it turns out to be a non-story; the best-case scenario takes the win: the fence is to guard the elevator as it is being refurbished.
