What happened to the threads and activity of whole past month? Are they gone permanently or is there a refreshing bug? Did the NIMBYs hack the board?

I am on the East coast this week and when I checked early this morning, the board was offline with a few database errors.
I hope proboards didn't blow a gasket. This is a free service so they're probably not that concerned, but geez. Kinda throws cold water on adding anything new.
Even if they are able to recover, anything added after this point would be gone once they do it.

Well, let's hope not and they can fix it without losing the posts. I let Bart know and he will look into it.

Well, let's hope not and they can fix it without losing the posts. I let Bart know and he will look into it. Here is what the Pro Boards have to say: We are running some tests on the hard drive that appears to have failed to see if we can recover the data from it. If we are not able to recover the data we will restore from our backup server. Regardless we will be having a new hard drive installed on this server which will result in some downtime. In the event that we need to restore from backups, we have a backup of all active forums from July. Forums restored using this method will be reverted to their July backup which may be anywhere from July 1st to July 27th. Uh-oh, looks like the system is still under repair. Rather like going down to the railway station and finding the tracks all torn up and repair crews and heavy machinery going "hammers & tongs". Passenger: "But this was supposed to be running at 5 AM this morning. Foreman: "Things happened." (quote from W. C. Fields movie)

Well, I'm worried that our July posts have been lost forever.

Well indeed, it looks like the young gentlemen who run proboards didn't think an invesment in a mirror drive was worthwhile, so they have in fact lost everything posted after June 30.
What do do? Move? Lick our wounds and stay here? What a joke.

What do do? Move? Lick our wounds and stay here? What a joke. Proboards is far better than the previous incarnation of this board. That was really bad, because it would be attacked by spambots (and even worse ... a poster named John) and then when posts get deleted, the thread is marked new even though no new discussion occurred.

From my read of the above link, they are done doing restoration. This is all they have and it's not much. All data from July 1 at 12:00 AM Texas time is unretrievably lost. Apprently they decided to reduce backup frequency to once a month. While they have a decent board system, my suprise is that they run no sort of RAID redundancy on their data drives. It would have prevented this even without a backup - and with drives being so cheap nowadays. I mean, we're talking 50 to 100 bucks, - it's sad they didn't think it was worth the investment. It is what it is. I'll stop bitching now.

In modern practice, this type of loss is not really possible. Unfortunately, it looks like the IT folks who run this board have yet to make the leap to modern practice.
RAID and backups. Indeed, a no-brainer.

..Not really sure why we're not using forum software via the main website -- it would solve a lot of the issues related to the site and forums.

RAID arrays aren't foolproof either--one of the music-related sites I used to visit had one and it went queep, meaning I couldn't check out local band photos anymore.

^ RAID plus regular backups, however, make it nearly impossible to lose that much data.
