Npr reported this morning that decking installation at LA Brea will take 22 weekends rather than 7 weeks. Starts this summer. Bummer they took the longer option.

Massive amount of work happening at LA brea, the two staging areas are both running at full tilt. Yesterday while driving to work I saw the drill bit ascending out of the pile hole.

Per today in LA, Wilshire LA Brea decking construction begins today. Full closure of the intersection for the next 22 weekends, skipping 4th of July and labor day.
I wonder if they will do a seven week closure for fairfax, and a 22 weekend closure for LA Cienega. I would much prefer the shorter closure on LA cienega, half a year of weekend closures on it is way worse for us.

I was driving down west on Wilshire and saw a very tall piece of equipment in the middle of the roadway between Rossmore and Crenshaw. I'm wondering what it is (sorry no pics) and where will they insert the boring machine?

Pile installation is complete on the north side of the Wilshire fairfax station box, krail is up on the south side and the street has been realigned for work to begin on south side pile installation.
No more left turns from west bound Wilshire onto southbound fairfax, use crescent heights and Curson as workarounds for the next six? months of pile installation.

Are they building a launch pit? Wilshire at rossmore (and further east) is a nightmare of construction.

Phase 3 funding from the Feds now in doubt. The Trump regime's proposed budget denies the expected funding for Phase 3 specifically, but does not go after the Phase 2 funds previously approved.

And even worse, this would eliminate all New Starts funding going forward. Still needs to pass Congress though so a long way to go, but I could see the House passing something like this, which means the Senate would be the last obstacle to this.

Purple line phase 2 officially begins pre construction activities on September 5th!
Utility relocation by SCE at Wilshire rodeo station.
Also unmentioned here but metro got the memorandum of agreement from the city of Beverly Hills, which is probably why utility relocation is now finally starting for the rodeo station.
Iirc, utility relocation has been ongoing for the century city station. This station is the monster of the purple line, the box will be nearly 1300 feet long!

TBMs will be happening soon, and the twin machines will first bore east from la brea to extraction at Wilshire western. Then removed and returned to la brea and will tunnel west to la cienega. Presumably, the infamous tutor perini in charge of phase 2 will then purchase all new TBMs for phase two, rather than replacing the cutter heads for new conditions, because that's a good use of tax payer money, buying the same equipment twice Metro is having local kids do a naming and art contest for the TBMs. I'll go ahead and make a prediction that the twins will be named Barack and Michelle.

Metro's Beverly Hills presenation on the combined phase 1 and phase 2 of the purple line is a great PDF to peruse. Particularly if you've ever wondered why utility relocation takes so long, there is an extensive section with illustrations detailing the complexity. Also, tunneling for phase 2 is scheduled to begin in January of 2019! This is about 1 month after they start excavating the Rodeo station, so I presume this means either that the Rodeo station is not as deep (doesn't need as long excavation) or they're simply planning on excavating while the TBM is slowly traversing the distance from the La Cienega launch/extraction pit to Rodeo. Or they are planning on launching TBMs west from the La Cienega pit long before the TBMS from the La Brea pit reach La Cienega. I think the latter is most likely, 4 simultaneous TBMs working on the purple line, simply because tunneling for phase 1 is supposed to start in July 2018 and the TBMs will be heading east from La Brea first, and won't be returned to La Brea to tunnel west until 2019. Since the phase 1 tunneling is scheduled to finish in June 2020, it seems like we are going to have 4 TBMs working on our subway. Pile installation for the Rodeo station starts in July of 2018, Decking starts in October 2018, Excavation starts in December 2018 t.e2ma.net/click/fkcv1/z3katu/jrwqajand in phase one news,I saw on the source that La Brea is over 80% excavated.
