The Orange Line's NABI 60 ft buses are slowly phasing in sliding doors to help mitigate bus overcrowding. The door open like doors on a streetcar, which makes for a slightly more comfortable standing ride. Not sure if I out-scooped the Source or if they are keeping it hush-hush until the they finish the retrofit on the majority. Check out my article at SubwayJoyride.com for a passenger loading video montage. Speaking of Orange Line upgrades there should be work on the North Hollywood second portal that will be a direct connection to the Orange Line, but there isn't, work was suppose to begin in October 2012 and as of a week and a half ago there's no signs inside of the Red Line station (knock-out panels) or in the desert garden area of the Orange Line station where the portal should open up to. What gives?

In the announcement that Metro was going to "upgrade" the Orange Line with grade separation and electric buses in the future they also mentioned changing the service to drop the on-street segment in Warner Center and "short-lining" the service to Reseda Blvd because ridership drastically drops off after Reseda Station. How would short-lining work on a closed, dedicated busway? Wouldn't the buses have to turn around at Reseda Station to accomplish this? No way that is going to happen? Am I missing something?

Metro owns the parking lot next door, a turn back loop could pretty easily be built. Should also note that Reseda is one of the intersections listed for potential rail-ready grade separation. If that happens, the station and intersection are basically a blank slate.

Yesterday 03/15/2024 an Orange line bus and motorcycle collided. The man on the cycle was killed and the 12 year old girl on the motorcycle went to the hospital. Are grade crossing with gates in place or just traffic lights to control the vehicles.
