One of the new Breda cars was out on the Gold Line this afternoon--705 was in non-revenue testing, leaving Sierra Madre Villa just ahead of the 1:40pm train. Anybody seen 703 or 704? There were three visible in the yard when I came back from downtown, but two could have been the original test cars.

There were at least 4 of the new breda cars in the gold line yard this afternoon. Plus the car with the new paint job. I wonder if they could be close to putting them in revenue service?

Metro expects to have a revenue Breda train running this December. Previously, the goal was for October, but now pushed back due to technical problems.

Not like a hundred years ago when a streetcar could be set up for operation in a few days.

The Siemens cars on the Green and Gold lines were about 4 years late.

Which ones do you think look better, the siemens or the breda? What paint job are they gonna get, or are they just gonna leave them grey? I never seen the Bredas myself, other than in pictures. I think it would be cool to color code the trains or something.

I thought the Siemens cars were doing just fine. I've always wondered why MTA would replace them so soon when their service lifespan has barely even begun...

I like both the Siemens and Bredas. I agree about the grey color. Hope they add some color.
MTA is keeping the Siemens. The Bredas were bought due to the expansion of the Goldline & Blueline. Gonna need some more trains.

Here my quick photoshopping of what maybe a gold line car would look like with gold painted all over it. Yes, I know, it looks a bit yellow, but oh well. Too bad. I have a feeling the paint job is gonna be gray with a stripe on the side. I've never seen the car with the new paint job.

The MTA announced a few months back when they ordered the additional 50 Breda cars that they were replacing the Nippon Sharyo cars on the blue line, not the Siemens cars. Has there been a change?

IIRC they announced a couple of years ago that they were going to rebrand the entire rail fleet silver, so that's the color that I think that they will stay.

From the pic, if you look at the breda on its side, it looks sorta like an HRV. Probably because of the streaks along the side. BTW, is the red line getting new cars? I think its about time..

Yeah, I think those grooves in the steel are called "fluted". This was very common with the cars made by Budd like this NYCT R32 captured by the late Date Angerville. And I haven't heard that the red line is getting new cars yet. The MTA did announce a few months back that they would be getting a mid-life overhaul and would be getting at least some updated technology. I made a thread about it somewhere in the red line forum.

I should have done my research before opening my big fat mouth (I'm good at that, you know). My source of information was from the folks working in the field. The Breda cars are not received in a "turn key" condition. Lots of hardware and software installation and testing is required before they can be placed in revenue service. It's been almost 2.5 yrs since 701 was delivered, and it's still not ready. I think we can all agree on this: MTA = Might Take Awhile. The latest rumor is that the blueline will be keeping the Nippon Sharyos, with Breda cars added to the line. It will be a mixed fleet operation. The Breda has a 3 mode ATP system that allows it to operate on the Blue, Green or Gold lines.

MTA: Might take awhile, lol I like that, and its totally true. But I still can't belive that its taking them so long, 2.5 years is long enough for testing. But then again, its MTA. =/

I remember right after the first Breda car was delivered to MTA, I had the opportunity to talk to some of the Breda techs. The way they told it, the first two Breda cars (701 & 702, I believe) were to be the prototype cars. All the bugs would be worked out of them, all the testing done, and when fininally accepted, would be used as a "pattern" for the remainding cars. So the rest of the cars would built just like the first two, and be ready to run as soon as delivered.
Well...so much for that idea!

The P2550s should be able to run on all of our light rail lines. It's most likely to run on the Green Line, and is probably stored at the Blue Line yard if there's a lack of space at the Manhattan Beach Green Line yard. Cars can be transferred between the Blue and Green at Rosa Parks station, you'll notice a fenced off incline in the I-105 median.

7 or 8 bread cars were sitting in the Gold Line Yard until Oct 2007, but I looked at there few days ago, some of the cars were disappeared. How do they transferred them from the Gold Line yard to another place? There's no rail tracks between the blue line and Gold Line.

Thanks for the follow up. That's make sense but I didn't know that they use the same rail gauge as Amtrak/UP. And the map you showed me, they could open another red line station on 4st bridge. just thought.

There was one of the new Breda's (701) in the blue line yard for a week or so last month, but it's been gone for a few weeks now. I've seen one in the blue line yard on many occasions but I've never seen them testing yet on the blue line. I've never seen them testing on the gold line either, but I rarely ride that line. I wonder where they go when they disappear from the gold line yard?

I wonder what is going on with those cars. They've been shipped back on forth (trucks) and disappearing and reappearing. And the order of those cars should be arriving soon i believe......
